Summer is the peak of ozone season in the region, according to the North Texas Clean Air Coalition, and today's national "Dump The Pump" day honors people who strive for cleaner Texas skies.
To further celebrate them, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the T, Trinity Railway Express and the North Texas Clean Air Coalition (NTCAC) are having a customer appreciation event Thursday at the TRE CentrePort/DFW Airport Station.
Since the average single occupant car in North Texas puts about 28 pounds of pollution in the air each day, according to the American Public Transportation Association, "Dump The Pump" day is an important national commuter-awareness program. It highlights the money-saving and environmental benefits of choosing transit for daily travel.
The transit agenices will also launch a summer-long ozone-awareness campaign and contest Thursday.
