Traffic Survey Starts

The North Central Texas Council of Governments is preparing to survey riders of two of the region’s transportation authorities as it seeks information about travel patterns and demographics.

The council of governments will distribute surveys beginning Monday to passengers of transit vehicles operated by The Fort Worth Transportation Authority, or The T, and Denton County Transportation Authority. The survey will be conducted in October and November to help the council of governments learn about the demographic makeup of each agency’s riders and which routes are most popular. The data will be used to plan future service improvements and ensure efficient use of public funds. Last year, NCTCOG conducted a similar survey on Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) routes, so DART will not be included.

Trained surveyors will survey passengers on board selected transit vehicles on almost all bus routes. In addition, signs notifying transit users that a survey will be administered on the buses will be posted for a week prior to the start of the effort.

Survey results will provide updated commuter travel information for potential service changes and for NCTCOG’s regional travel model.
