Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief said the Texas Department of Transportation should soon finish an environmental review, allowing for Interstate 35W expansion to begin.

Moncrief said I-35W is the heart of Tarrant County's transportation system and has become a parking lot.  A $2 billion initiative called the North Tarrant Express will add toll-managed express lanes and additional general purpose lanes to I-35W as well as Loop 820 and state Highway 183.

The good news for drivers is that as soon as TxDOT clears the environmental review, construction can begin and Moncrief said that should be soon.
