The North Texas Tollway Authority voted Wednesday to raise speed limits to 70 mph on the Dallas North Tollway and President George Bush Turnpike based on the results of a speed study.
"The speed study results indicate that recommended speed limits are more consistent with the actual flow of traffic," said Rick Herrington, NTTA deputy executive director.
The NTTA initiated the study to determine appropriate speed limits as it implemented all-electronic toll collections on the roadways.
The study reviewed items such as crash data, environmental and noise impact and roadway geometry.
The speed limits go into effect as soon as new signs are installed. The installation starts Thursday and will continue through Sept. 1.
