Proposals submitted to give IH-635 a face lift

An ambitious 5 year plan to improve the traffic flow on LBJ freeway could begin this fall.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced Thursday it received two proposals to give LBJ freeway a big face lift.
The five year construction plan involves adding elevated HOV lane connectors, similar to elevated entrance ramps to get HOV drivers out of the main lanes.
Drivers paying a toll would be able to use the HOV lanes to move away from the traffic.
The I-635 Managed HOV Lanes Project, focuses on the segment of the I-635 Freeway between Luna Road and Greenville Avenue and the segment of the I-35E Freeway between Loop 12 to Valwood Parkway.
The plan also includes improvements to the main highway.
TxDot will review the proposals and hopes to award the project at its February 26 meeting.
Construction could begin this fall with costs estimated at $4 billion dollars.
