Dump the Pump, Ride The Bus For Free

The Fort Worth Transportation Authority, better known as the T, wants North Texans to dump the pump. That is as long as you are planning to go where their buses go!

The T offers free bus service all day Thursday, June 18 as part of National Dump the Pump Day -- the Trinity Railway Express is not free.

State Rep. Vicki Truitt, of Keller will also name the T's Silver Anniversary winner who will get a premium transit pass.

We already know the winner is a student at the University of North Texas who has no car and no direct transportation to and from Fort Worth

The student becomes the "poster child" (their words not ours) for the need for expanded transit and regional rail connections. He says he looks forward to using the 25-year pass, to "commute to school, work or anything else."

Thursday's events kick off the T's new "Be Airesponsible" campaign promoting public transportation as a way for people to reduce their carbon footprint.

Wonder if all of the parties taking part in Thursday's event will take a bus to the festivities, carpool or drive in separate cars?

We all know public transportation doesn't reach all parts of North Texas, but then we guess that's the point.
