One driver is lucky to be alive after attempting to beat a train in Carrolton Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses said at around 4 p.m. they saw a car speeding toward the railroad tracks on East Rosemead Pkwy. near Kelly Boulevard.

At the same time some said they heard a train approaching the same intersection. Moments later, witnesses report hearing a loud rash followed by the screeching of train brakes.

Carrollton police said the train hit the car and dragged it about 600 feet.

The driver of that car suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas.
