Cowboy Fans Will Feel Traffic Pains
I-30 construction on schedule for completion in 2010
The construction on Interstate 30 in Arlington will ease traffic congestion when it's finished. Too bad for Cowboy fans, it won't be completed until 2010.
Texas Department of Transportation spokesman Val Lopez III says drivers heading to the first Cowboy game at the new stadium should expect some delays.
"Really, the best advice would be to give yourself plenty of time before coming here and be patient." Lopez said.
Crews are widening I-30 to four lanes in each direction and adding an HOV lane. TxDOT is also building three new bridges over the interstate on Collins, Center and Baird Farm Road.
Lopez says the project started in November of 2007 and is still on schedule to be completed in the 36 months it was alloted.
"This construction was never synchronized with the opening of the stadium. It's separate from the stadium," Lopez said.
But Lopez said progress has been made.
The new eastbound lanes will be finished by the first Cowboys game, as will the Center Bridge and Baird Farm Road Bridge. But Lopez says, traffic on the bridges and exits will only be going south, towards the stadium.
Even though it won't be completed, Lopez says drivers will notice a difference.
"By the time the stadium does open, they'll be significant improvements to the roadway to accommodate the traffic that stadium will get." Lopez said.
