You will want no part of state Highway 360 Friday evening and Saturday.
The Texas Department of Transportation is shutting the highway down at Division Street in Arlington to allow for the installation of new deck panels on the new Division Street and Union Pacific Railroad bridges spanning the highway.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, the north and southbound lanes of 360 will be detoured off of the highway. Northbound will exit Abram Street and be routed east to Great Southwest Parkway. Motorists can then cross the tracks and head west on Division before reentring the highway. Southbound drivers will exit Division Street, head west to Stadium Drive, cross the tracks and then head east on Abram Street where they can then reenter the highway.
This detour could be quite lengthy if there is a lot of traffic. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes -- especially since traffic on 360 can be a nightmare even when all lanes are open.
The construction is part of the $56 million project that is reconstructing the Division Street bridge and the railroad bridge. Included in the construction is the addition of shoulders on SH 360, improved ramp access at Division Street and new continuous frontage roads under the rail lines. Completion of the project is scheduled for early winter 2012.
