Several lanes of Loop 12 near Texas Stadium will be closed Friday night through the weekend so that a legendary bridge can be demolished.
The lanes are being closed to allow crews from the Texas Department of Transportation to begin demolishing the Texas Plaza Bridge, the bridge Cowboys fans walked across while going between the gold lot and Texas Stadium.
The bridge removal is part of a $500 million rebuilding project of the state Highway 114 and Loop 12 interchange in Irving.
Beginning Friday night at 8 p.m., northbound Loop 12 near Texas Stadium will be reduced to one lane. The exit from Loop 12 to state Highway 114 will be closed. Drivers needing to reach 114 will be detoured to state Highway 183 and Tom Braniff Road. Northbound Loop 12 is scheduled to be reopened Saturday at 6 p.m.
At about 1 p.m. on Saturday, southbound Loop 12 near Texas Stadium will be reduced to one lane. The onramp from 114 to Loop 12 will be closed, as will the exit ramp to 183. Drivers needing to get to 183 will be detoured to the frontage road. Southbound Loop 12 is scheduled to reopen at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
On April 11, Texas Stadium will also be demolished.
