PGBT Reopens After Fatal Crash in Carrollton

One person is dead and three are injured in a crash that shut down the PGBT in Carrollton

Police said a fatal crash shut down the President George Bush Turnpike in Carrollton for hours Wednesday morning.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Lonny Haschel said troopers responded to the crash in the southbound lanes of the PGBT near the Belt Line overpass at 3:26 a.m.

Investigators said a motorist was changing a flat tire on a black Nissan that was stopped near the shoulder when a Ford Expedition crashed into the vehicle.

The victim was struck and died at the scene, according to Haschel. A passenger in the Nissan was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Authorities said the crash pushed the Nissan into the lanes of the PGBT, where it was struck a second time by a Volvo. The driver and passenger in the Volvo were also taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

The driver of the Expedition was not injured.

The southbound lanes of the road were reopened at about 9 a.m.
