NTSB Chairman Talks Safety in DFW

Deborah Hersman Inspects Buses in Grapevine

With travel by motor coach on the rise, the Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board came to DFW to get a first hand look at the latest in safety.

Deborah Hersman stopped by the American Bus Association's "Marketplace" at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine.  According the ABA, 750 million passengers ride buses or motor coaches annually and ridership is increasing.

Hersman toured several buses.  "I'm here at the Marketplace to really see what kind of technologies are being offered in vehicles, especially safety technologies," Hersman said.  "The NTSB investigates accidents and we enhance safety and make sure motor coach travel is safe as possible."

North Texas is no stranger to bus accidents.  In August of 2008, a bus chartered by Vietnamese Christian pilgrims ran off the road and crashed in Sherman. 17 people died. Dozens more were injured.
