The consortium building the LBJ Express is fighting back against rumors that the road way is owned by a company based in China.
The ownership group, LBJ Express, says in a blog post that an ABC News report falsely claims that the project is Chinese-owned and being built in North Texas by Chinese workers.
The group said the LBJ Infrastructure Group LLC is led by Austin-based Cintra U.S., the American arm of a company out of Spain, as well as Meridiam Infrastructure and the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System.
The group is using 130 companies to build the roadway, 90 percent of which are based in Texas. The company said the project has provided "employment for more than 2,000 people, who are spending money, paying taxes and contributing to our economy here in North Texas."
The roadway is a five-year, $2.7 billion revamp of 17 miles of Interstate 635, Interstate 35E from Loop 12 to U.S. Highway 75.
The group said they posted the blog report after several inquiries based on the news story.
