Fuel Spill Closes Spur 408 Early Tuesday

An 18-wheeler carrying groceries broke down on Spur 408, causing a fuel spill that closed an on-ramp for a few hours Tuesday morning.

Police say the 18-wheeler was on the exit ramp from eastbound Interstate 20 to Spur 408 when the truck's drive shaft snapped and punctured the side fuel tank at about 2:30 a.m. The tank was full with several hundred gallons of fuel, police said.

A hazardous materials team was called to clean up the fuel, closing the ramp until about 4:45 a.m.

The Clark Road exit was closed until about 5:15 a.m.

There were no reported injuries.
