Fatal Crash Shuts Down I-20 EB

Interstate 20 eastbound was shut down for about two hours during afternoon rush hour Monday.

Arlington police said two people died in a crash involving three vehicles near New York Avenue at about 3:45 p.m.

Police said it appeared a Toyota car going eastbound on I-20 changed lanes just before New York Avenue and hit another car, causing the Toyota to spin. An 18-wheeler then hit the side of the Toyota. The driver and passenger inside the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was diverted to State Highway 360 while accident investigators and emergency crews were at the crash site. Drivers were urged to exit at Cooper Street and Collins Street to avoid the traffic backup.

Traffic on westbound I-20 was slow as drivers slowed down to look at the crash.
