More North Texas Transplants, Longer Driver License Wait Times

More people are moving to North Texas, which means more people are in need of a driver's license. With that comes longer lines at the driver's license centers.

On Monday morning, the driver license office at Parker Road, in Plano, had a line wrapped around the door.

NBC 5 reached out to officials with Texas Department of Public Safety to figure out how people can avoid long wait times.

The DPS said summertime is the busiest time of the year at driver license offices. Also, Monday and Friday tend to be the busiest days of the week at the offices, so to try to avoid going on these days if possible.

Make sure to check if you are eligible to renew your license online, by phone, or mail. You might not even have to physically go to the driver license center to get what you need done.

As far as office locations, they encourage using one of the Mega Centers, which have higher capacity than smaller officers.

There is also a “get in line online” option, however officials said some offices are currently experiencing intermittent issues and they are working to fix them.

Lastly, make sure that you have all the proper documents before arriving to the driver license office. This is crucial in making sure you don’t have to make a second trip back to the office.
