The city of Dallas is working on a streetscape plan for Deep Ellum.
The idea is to slow down traffic, draw more business and make the roads pedestrian- and bike-friendly.
The city is planning new streetscapes for Deep Ellum, complete with bike lanes, benches and trees. The project was approved in a 2006 bond program.
Part of the plan is to make all of the streets two-way. Elm Street would be first to get a makeover. Sidewalks would be widened to encourage street-side patio dining, and bike lanes would be added.
"Yet the music will still be the same, the street scene will all be the same, the excitement and vibe will still be the same,” Fitzgerald said.
The plan will be explained at a community meeting in April, where neighbors are encouraged to ask questions or express concerns.
