With hours stuck in traffic with wasted time and mounting frustrations, it can feel like Dallas has the worst traffic around. Now, a new study finds that feeling may not be too far from the truth.
A study by the traffic data company INRIX recorded the number of traffic congestion "hot spots" across the country. Dallas, Austin and Houston all ranked in the top 25.
"Being that I drive trucks, and I get caught in Houston, I really say Dallas might have Houston beat," said truck driver Jeremy Rice.
Dallas had 6,720 "hot spots," which was the most in Texas and the fifth most in the country. Dallas ranked only behind New York, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Atlanta for having the worst traffic congestion.
"I think it's pretty true. It's too much traffic. You can barely get to places," said David Perez, of Dallas.
There are some road projects that could help ease the congestion. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the top three projects that could conquer congestion are the Lower Stemmons project on Interstate 35E near the Uptown area, the Gateway project on I-35E in southern Dallas and the LBJ East project on Interstate 635.
"It's supposed to help. It will slow it down, but in the long run I hope that it does help it out," said Daniel Garza, of Dallas.
