A one-vehicle crash that killed the driver shut down northbound State Highway 161 around Belt Line Road in Irving.

Irving police said a vehicle traveling north on the President George Bush Turnpike left the roadway and hit the Walnut Hill overpass. Investigators do not know why the vehicle left the road.

The female driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was the only person in the car.

The call came in at 11:18 a.m., and the highway was shut down soon after. Irving police said the freeway was opening back up Tuesday night.
