A 3-year-old girl was killed in a crash along the President George Bush Turnpike in Plano Thursday morning when the car she were riding in flew over a concrete barrier and into oncoming traffic, officials say.

Trooper Lonny Haschel, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, said the driver of an Infiniti sedan quickly moved from the center lane to the left lane to avoid a slower moving vehicle.

While making the evasive maneuver, the driver lost control of the car. The sedan went into the median where it became airborne and crossed over the concrete barrier that divides the highway and landed in the oncoming lanes.

The sedan was then hit broadside by a Lexus SUV and a Hyundai sedan.

Both the driver of the Infiniti sedan and the 3-year-old girl were transported to the Medical Center of Plano with serious injuries. The child later died.

Officials have not disclosed the relationship between the male driver and the child.

The driver of the SUV was also hospitalized, but with injuries that were not considered life threatening. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured.

Meanwhile, the westbound lanes of the PGBT remains closed near Custer Road, but is expected to reopen before rush hour Thursday afternoon.

    The crash remains under investigation.
