The City of Grapevine kicked off its annual tree sharing program Monday.

Through the program, Grapevine residents can purchase 30-gallon, container grown trees for $90; a big savings over traditional retail.

The program is a major part of the city's effort to regrow its urban forest.

"It's great for the environment to have a lot of trees, and it's beautification as well," said Mona Burk, spokeswoman for the city.

Summer storms hit the Grapevine area especially hard, knocking down trees across the city.

Burk said this is a good chance for residents to replace those trees at a fraction of the cost.

To purchase a tree, call Lisa Adams at 817-410-3350.
