Cabela's Coming to Collin County

Allen store will be 100,000 feet of heaven for hunters

Camping, hunting and outdoor aficionados will have another paradise where they can purchase their gear.

Cabela's announced Tuesday it will open a second North Texas store in Allen in spring 2011. The new store will be located on the east side of U.S. 75 at Village Drive. Construction is set to begin later this summer.

The new store will have 100,000 square feet, and it will be the third Cabela's in the state. Cabela's has a store in far north Fort Worth and another in Buda, just south of Austin.

“The area’s residents, as well as visitors to the region, are people who enthusiastically enjoy their outdoor heritage and we’re excited to be even more accessible to them,” said Cabela’s chief executive officer Tommy Millner, in a prepared statement.

Over the past couple years, Cabela's slowed its store expansion plans because of the recession, but the Sydney, Neb.-based company said its first-quarter profit jumped 57 percent, to $8.1 million, as revenue from its credit card unit soared and sales improved.
