Wrecking Ball Ready for Reunion Arena

Downtown Dallas landmark about to be recycled.

The demolition of Reunion Arena officially began Friday as work crews lowered the massive indoor scoreboard.

Project manager Martha Welch said the tear down will be environmentally friendly with more than 75 percent of the building’s materials being recycled. "The concrete is not going to leave the site, the metal re-bar will be taken out. The concrete will be ground to a specified size and it will be put in the hole to help fill this large area."

The contractor has until November 9 to complete the work.

Sports Street and Hotel Street will be closed to traffic during the demolition.
