DFW area home foreclosure listings dip below 5,000 properties, but experts don't think it's a sign everything is safe.

After July's record high of 6,072 DFW homes posted for foreclosure, August's expected numbers will show 4,796 properties on the list, according to Foreclosure Listing Services.

That's a good sign for the DFW home market, but experts don't think it's a sign everything is safe.

"Unfortunately, I don't think we are going to see any great decline" beyond current levels, Foreclosure Listing Service President George Roddy told the Dallas Morning News. "If we can keep it under 5,000 for a couple of months, that's a good thing. But obviously, it's still bad to have foreclosures this high."

Tarrant County fares better than other areas, however: "Although Tarrant County home postings have topped 1,500 for the last five consecutive foreclosure auctions . . . just 1,545 postings have been filed on homes, which was the lowest level within the last five months," Roddyexplained to the Star-Telegram.

Collin County homes show a 9 percent increase on the August list and Dallas County listings increased by 1 percent to 2,091 homes.
