Radio Crowds the Restaurant Star

Sports station The Fan gets into dining business

Another sports-themed restaurant-bar in a market nearly saturated with sports-themed restaurant-bars might seem rather ho-hum. This one, though, could generate some buzz, or static.

According to DFW.com, KRLD/105.3 FM "The Fan," a radio station, mind you, plans to open a restaurant this fall in Victory Park, home to American Airlines Center, the Dallas Mavericks, [ahem] the world-champion Dallas Mavericks, and the Dallas Stars, so there’s your sports hook, probably.

The Fan Sports Lounge will occupy 8,000 square feet, feature the obligatory mondo-sized high-definition flat screens, and “a gourmet twist on traditional bar food.”

It also will include a studio from which to broadcast during sports events at the arena, and that part must truly make it different from other sports-themed restaurant-bars in town, unless, of course, KTCK-AM Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket is doing a remote from a sports-themed restaurant-bar.

This little venture should be worth watching, which will be a first for a radio station.
