Eschew mega eateries for this little kitchen where dumplings are made by hand. It’s a mom and pops restaurant -- literally. Bui’s parents and in-laws are the chefs. But this mom and pop’s restaurant, with its white walls, clean lines and walnut floor, has a modern feel to it. Its interior resembles more of an art gallery than a small, family-run place to grab some fried rice.
“We serve small plates so everyone can kind of share -- almost tapas style -- you can reach over to friend’s plate, grab a bite and share. It’s more casual,” said Bui.
The cuisine at Lumi Empanada & Dumpling Kitchen is a combination of two distinct cultures -- Brazil and Vietnam. Since opening in March, the little house with only ten parking spots behind it has become a neighborhood favorite. And with all the options when it comes to eating in Uptown, that says a lot.
“It’s totally different you don’t see that anywhere in Dallas,” said Thang Pho over a bowl of wonton soup.
Lumi Empanada & Dumpling Kitchen has a pretty sweet spot on the avenue for heavy foot traffic on the weekends. Plus, with a new
bar opening up next door soon, the happy hour crowd is sure to follow.
“It’s a great place to bring your first date or even come with girlfriends and grab a quick bite,” said Yu.
