Happy Birthday, Cadillac On The Roof!

Store with a Cadillac on the roof celebrates first year

The best-dressed and ready to party helped Dean-Kingston celebrate its first year in Fort Worth Wednesday night.

The hip boutique on Foch Street dared to be different; by opening during a recession and by bringing a new twist to Cowtown fashion.

"Dean-Kingston is a contemporary men and women's clothing store with a slight fashion forward edge but still with a Fort Worth feel," buyer and visual merchandiser Justin Dean Davis told NBCDFW.

Co-owner Stacie Poynor grew up in retail.  Her dad owned a men's clothing store in Jacksboro, and her grandfather had a grocery store before that.

Her recent move to Fort Worth convinced Poynor it was time for her to try her wings in retail.

"Everyone in Fort Worth goes to Dallas to shop.  My idea was for a place where you couldn't get something at the mall.  A shopping destination," is how Poynor described her store.

She admitted "there couldn't have been a worse time to open a business since 1929," but "we're growing and staying on target for our five year plan."

Dean-Kingston is 821 Foch Street in the same strip as La Familia Mexican Restaurant.  You can't miss it.  There's a blue car on the roof!

"It is a 1964 Cadillac. Stacie Poynor (owner) was born in 1964 and thought it would be a fun conversation piece and people would learn to know "Dean-Kingston" as the clothing store with the Cadillac on the roof," explained Davis.
