    Buy Indie: Summer of DIY
Unravel all the riffraff that makes sewing seem insurmountable using motivation from area artists and designers.

The crafting bug is creeping in every corner of Make Shop and Studio in Bishop Arts, where hip and sensible goods by almost all of the area designers and artists we love online can be found in real life. We felt a definite bite while inspecting a funky headband by Tara to the T during a recent visit, just before we heard a crafter ask about an upcoming sewing class -- one of the payoffs of taking a break from Etsy-ing that day.

Make offers multiple levels of sewing instruction this summer, a promising alternative to sticking it out through a class taught by a recently divorced quilter at a local sewing center and having only a half-finished pair of oversized pajama pants and a stranger's emotional baggage to show for it. (That flannel Charlie Brown Christmas print was nobody's fault but our own.)

Check out the weekender-friendly calendar for classes on the basics of sewing as well as sessions on vintage apron and kimono making. And you must tell every school-aged budding seamstress you know about the summer fashion camps offered at Make -- a glance at the descriptions made us way jealous.

A spate of other skills are passed on at the studio, like screenprinting and even budget floral arranging. Most of the classes that sparked out interest (Sewing Basics! Woo!) were priced at around $50. Stop by the shop at 313 N. Bishop Ave. in Dallas to find out more.
