April 17 & 18, the Ennis Garden Club is hosting the Bluebonnet Festival in Ennis, TX. Very colorful, with more orange (Indian Paintbrush) than there have been in years – some fields are only paintbrush; however, others are blue, orange and yellow with the entire selection. It’s a beautiful drive.

Bluebonnets are in bloom and plentiful this year, so it's really worth the drive to Ennis for this weekend's Bluebonnet Trails Festival.

The festival is happening at the peak time for bluebonnets, so you definitely want to bring your camera for a great photo op.

If you don't believe Ennis is the best place to see the state flower in bloom, just consider that the 1997 State Legislature made it official that Ennis is home of the "Official Texas Bluebonnet Trail" and the city was designated the "Official Bluebonnet City of Texas."

Enough said.

If you're not familiar with Ellis County and not sure where to go to see the state flower in abundance, never fear. The Ennis Visitor's Center will be handing out free maps of the Bluebonnet Trails, and maps will be available during the festival at the Ennis Garden Club Headquarters tent on N.W. Main Street.

Jake and Tina Regier tell us it's a beautiful drive.

"The drive is full of Texas Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush and many more flowers," the Regier's said via e-mail. "Very colorful, with more orange (Indian Paintbrush) than there have been in years – some fields are only paintbrush; however, others are blue, orange and yellow with the entire selection."

It's not just about the drive; the Ennis Bluebonnet Trails Festival also features arts, crafts, bluebonnet souvenirs, food and live music.
