Metroplex residents have plenty of places to go for a great night of fright. So as Halloween approaches, be seen and be scared at these DFW area “haunted” attractions.

Hangman’s House Of Horrors
This classic has been scaring up Fort Worth for over 20 years and was featured on the Travel Channel’s “America’s Scariest Halloween Attractions” special.  It was voted "Best Place to get Spooked" by the readers of Fort Worth Magazine. Hangman’s also has the distinction of being the top charity-benefiting haunted house in the nation, with over $1.6 million donated to local charities to date. Don’t let that kind donation lull you into a false sense of security, though; Hangman’s does have a serious scare factor.

Screams
Yes, you’ll shriek at Screams, but you’ll also have a great time with the five haunted attractions in the “world’s largest Halloween theme park.” Make sure you bring a good pair of walking shoes, as you'll be covering rugged and uneven terrain on the grounds. Operated in Waxahachie by the same two families since 1996, Screams has a legacy of scaring its “victims” and hits the top of many best attractions list…including this one.

Texas Scaregrounds
Four haunted attractions combine for this thirteen-acre scare-fest, including what used to be Nightmares in Arlington. Voted Haunted Attraction Magazine's Must-See Haunted Houses in 2009,  The Scaregrounds offers multiple haunts to be scared in, including an interactive hayride. Bring a change of pants.

The Boneyard Haunted House
The Boneyard Haunted House features high tech effects and good old-fashioned blood-and-guts scare tactics. In 2006, the Boneyard was submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest walk though haunted house in the world. The walk through Boneyard is more than a half a mile and includes more than 50 movie-quality sets, some with animatronics. Those who survive Boneyard can enjoy the game room and VooDoo Lounge afterward.

Fright Fest
Six Flag's annual celebration of the darkness offers a good balance of roller coaster thrills and haunted house chills. Not only is it fun to ride at night -- especially the Titan and the new (and improved) Texas Giant -- the Fright Fest turns many monster rides into rides with monsters. Rather tame by comparison to other haunted attractions, the roaming ghouls do provide some surprising sights -- and scares -- while you enjoy the theme park.

Cutting Edge
Just the location of this place is creepy -- an abandoned meat packing plant now houses a 250,000 square foot haunt. A favorite for haunted house enthusiasts, it's often reviewed as one of the scariest in the Metroplex, so be prepared to have some new gray hairs after a trek through. The location won a Guinness World Record for the longest walk-through for a haunted house, so you know you'll get a lot of boo for your buck. Throw in moving walls, flying corpses, and a easy to get to location in Fort Worth, and Cutting Edge might be the perfect pick this season.

Dallas Scaregrounds
Not to be confused with Kennedale's entry, the Dallas Scaregrounds has a legacy as Doctor Blood's ScreamScapes before changing the name and adding attractions to become a larger beast right smack dab in Dallas' Design District. Featuring multiple haunts, Scaregrounds highlights rotting corpses in the Necrotorium, a terrifying maze in their Terrortorium, and 3-D effects in the -- you guessed it -- Hallucinatorium. While mustering up your courage to enter one of the haunts, check out the food and games of the festival, plus hear live bands on the weekends before Halloween. They've even taken their monster maze indoors -- giving you one more reason to scream.

Dungeon of Doom
Pay to enter...pray to leave. A former saloon dating back to the origin of Arlington in 1877, the Dungeon of Doomed opened to the public as a haunted house in 1989.  Be prepared for the unexpected as unknown spirits roam the cracks and alley ways of the building.  The Dungeon has twice been voted Dallas Observer's Best Haunted House in the DFW Metroplex, and ranked 9.5 out of 10 by DFW Haunted Houses.

The Fatal End in the West End
An evil presence still resides beneath the subterranean floors of the West End Marketplace. Not for the faint of heart, those "brave souls" courageous enough to enter the the world of darkness will be horrified, thrilled and shocked.  The Fatal End is conveniently located within walking distance between the local train between Dallas, Fort Worth and Arlington.

Moxley Manor Haunted House
Prepare to face the wrath of the Moxley's as you enter this haunt located in Bedford. According to the Moxley story, the young family had plans to make the location a shelter for trouble youth and local homeles -- before they tourted and killed more than 20 people. The scares get ramped up for their October 18 "Lights Out at The Manor" event, where each group has only one glowstick to help guide them through the attraction.
