What You're Doing This Labor Day Weekend 2012

Summer is sliding to an unofficial close as the school year begins and the annual fashion faux pax holiday Labor Day brings in the start of September.

Knowing that you've got only about 3 months left in the year (112 days, if you follow apocalyptic time) can bum you out -- so we've collected a number of fun things to do during this long weekend.

Of course, these are only a selected number of the hundreds of events on our brand new Events Calendar. Click here for a lot more events for today, this weekend, and in the future.

Friday, August 31, 2012

The Second City Does Dallas: The Second City improv troupe has started the careers of Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Jim Belushi and a huge number of others, but now you can see the next up-and-coming stars perform without having to head to Chicago. Members of The Second City troupe will perform at the Wyly Theatre at 8 p.m. on Friday. Make sure you hit the restroom before going into the show -- you might pee yourself laughing.

Chris Isaak: The tender falsetto of Chris Isaak croons into the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie for a Friday night show starting at 8 p.m. Isaak is a jack-of-all-trades with a resume that includes acting, songwriting, live performance, and great hair, but we're biggest fans of his "Wicked Game." That song even makes our knees go weak.

Saturday, September 1, 2012

Clint Black: Country star Clint Black heads to the Mesquite Rodeo as part of the "Pro County Fest." We've even got your free tickets to get in, if you enter our "I Like It" contest on the Facebook page. Winners are announced during NBC 5 News at 6 p.m. and on our Facebook page.

Gucci Mane: We were going to say "get your swag on when you watch Gucci Mane spit it at The Palladium Ballroom Saturday at 9:30 p.m," but we realized that sounded pretty much like what a dad would say to their kid when trying to look cool. Instead, perhaps we can invite you to enjoy the rhymes set to music as performed by Mr. Gucci Mane, esq. on Saturday evening. Indubitably.

Sunday, September 2, 2012

Pentatonix: The "Sing-Off" stars return to their Arlington home for a free show at Levitt Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. It's an outdoor event, so bring lawn chairs and blankets. Picnics, snacks and coolers with beverages are allowed, including beer and wine, but no glass containers.

Stockyards Music Festival: Billy Bob's goes all out with a Stockyards-wide music fest including Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights, Merle Haggard, David Allan Coe, Pat Green, the legendary Hank Williams Jr. and many more. Our Facebook fans got a chance to win tickets to this show, too. (Shouldn't you "like" our page already?) Anyway, the big huge show starts at noon on Sunday and is sure to last long into the night. Glad you don't have to work Monday, huh? Read more about the festival here.

Marc Anthony w/ Marco Antonio Solis, Chayanne: It's a Latin music explosion at the American Airlines Center starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday. We do think it's a little weird that ex-husband Anthony follows up from J. Lo's concert this past week, but you may be excited to see both halves of that former power couple in a span of eight days.

Monday, September 3, 2012

Def Leppard with Poison: Classic hair metal bands Def Leppard and Poison join forces (and fanbases) for a Labor Day show in the American Airlines Center to perform their hits like "Rock of Ages," "Pour Some Sugar on Me," and the Brett Michaels ballad "Every Rose Has Its Thorn." Who knew a guy in eyeliner and bandanna would sing such truth?
