Public voting is under way to choose art that will liven up Henderson Avenue in Dallas.

Created in an effort to give local artists exposure and make the street hipper (not too far of a stretch there), The Henderson Art Project is an annual event.

Seven finalists were selected from more than 100 entries, and their sculptures are now streetside along Henderson Avenue between Central Expressway and Ross Avenue.

The winners will receive cash prizes, and their art will remain in place for two years. After next year's finalists are selected, there will always be at least 14 sculptures on display along the street at any given time.

Creator of project, Scott Trent, said it's good for the public, the artists and businesses in the area.

“What this does is, it promotes our local artists, it puts art in places that are heavily traveled, where people are,” said Trent.

Artist Andrea Reich Fender said she couldn’t ask for better publicity for her piece, “Heaven’s Door."

“I think with the sort of renaissance that’s going on here on Henderson Avenue, I think that art on Henderson is completely appropriate.”

Voting on the seven finalists will continue through mid-April at the Henderson Art Project's Web site.
