There is big news coming out of Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington.

Earlier this month, the park announced they were tearing down the old parachute and Flashback rides to make way for something new -- only they wouldn't say what was to be built in their place.

Now, the park says they'll replace the longtime rides with the world's tallest swing.

The Texas SkyScreamer (artist's renderings below, left) will lift two dozen riders, sitting two across in open-air swings, 400 feet above the ground as they are spun around in a 124-foot circle at speeds of up to 35 mph.

Once aloft, those without a fear of heights will be higher than than anything else in the park, or possibly Arlington for that matter. By comparison, the Oil Derrick observation tower is 300 feet tall and the Superman Tower of Power is 325 feet tall. So, a better view of North Texas you'll likely not find.

“We take great pride in offering the best, the biggest and the most innovative attractions for our guests,” said Steve Martindale, Six Flags Over Texas and Hurricane Harbor park president. “This ride experience will be unlike any other tower swing ride ever built. If you want to Go Big, then ride the Texas SkyScreamer next spring.”

The park plans to have the ride up and running in early 2013.

The changes aren't only coming to Six Flags.  Across Interstate 30 at Hurricane Harbor, the park is celebrating the water park's 30th birthday with major upgrades to The Black Hole.  The ride will be transformed into a "4-D full-sensory thrill ride" that features holographic projections and sound effects.

“The Black Hole has been a long time favorite at Hurricane Harbor and no doubt the new enhancements will maintain that status for many years to come,” said Martindale. “Black Hole of Doom 4-D will be a great addition to the already diverse and exciting ride line up at the water park.”
