Half-Priced Wednesday a Spring Break Hit at Fort Worth Zoo

Half-priced Wednesday during spring break is busiest day of year for zoo

With spring break in full swing, thousands of people spent the day at the Fort Worth Zoo on Wednesday.

Traffic was heavy all day for drivers along Interstate 30 near University Drive as people traveled to the zoo for half-price admission.

There was a zoo along Colonial Parkway as hundreds of people waited in long lines for tickets and then shorter lines to pass through the turnstiles. Despite the crowds, most people were enthusiastic and expecting a busy day.

The zoo brought out trainers and smaller animals to give help entertain kids and parents waiting in lines.

In the last two years, the zoo has set attendance records on spring break's half-price Wednesday, with more than 25,800 people coming through the gates last year.

The zoo expects another record-breaking day.

"As the No. 1 attraction in DFW, this is where families want to come on spring break," zoo spokeswoman Katie Giangreco said. "The weather is wonderful, the animals are out, and it's half-priced."

One of the most popular exhibits of the day was the outdoor African Penguins exhibit, which just opened Friday.
