Ebby Halliday Knows How to Party

Even at 100 years old, Texas real estate mogul Ebby Halliday knows how to throw one heck of a party.

Hundreds of big names showed up at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas for a birthday bash 100 years in the making.

Name on the guest list included former President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, Jerry Jones, T. Boone Pickens, Ross Perot and Roger Staubach.

The partygoers enjoyed a concert and got to sample slices of a six-foot $20,000 cake.

"I'm overwhelmed, but not unappreciative," Halliday said while a line of guests waited to greet her.

"What she's done in her life is just incredible," Perot said. "What she's done for other people is incredible."

"She's a remarkable lady," said Steven H. Durham, one of the event's co-chairs. "She's admired. Just look at this around here tonight. It's a real testimonial to Ebby."

Many of the guests also talked about doing business with Halliday.

"When I bought my house, that's when I met Ebby Halliday -- from her company. That was way back in the late '60s. I'm still in the same house, so it was a good sale," Perot said, laughing.

"Seems like I've bought more houses around this town than anybody, and surely we went through Ebby on some of them," Jones said.

The event raised money for college scholarships through the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans.
