Denton Throws Food Truck Festival

Denton festival promotes food trucks, A-train service

Food trucks are rolling into Denton for its first food truck festival.

The festival will take place Friday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Downtown Denton Transit Center.

Councilman Kevin Roden said Friday's festival will both feature food trucks and celebrate the expansion of the A-train's Friday night services.

"It is a great way to promote our downtown and promote the A-train and their Friday night service in particular," he said. "We want to try and get some folks from our southern cities to come and visit us."

Whitney Dewell and Cuong Mai are cooking up a gourmet menu inside their food truck, The Pickled Carrot.

"It's good, it's healthy, it's fresh, it's local whenever possible," Dewell said. "You would be amazed at what you can make in one of these."

Their Vietnamese sandwiches are some of the first food truck creations to hit Denton streets.

"The food truck scene hasn't exploded here just yet," Dewell said. "People are a little bit skeptical."

She said people are wary because Denton's current food ordinance is strict as it relates to food trucks.

The City Council, however, is working to change that. It is drafting a more lenient ordinance and prepping for a festival that will embrace foodies such as The Pickled Carrot.
