Dallas Opera Appoints New Director

The Dallas Opera said Wednesday that 47-year-old Keith Cerny, chief executive of the Internet-based sheet music company Sheet Music Plus, will assume the general director post on May 24.

John T. Cody Jr. had been interim general director for the past year since the resignation of George Steel, who was director for about three years before leaving to lead the New York City Opera.

Opera President Kern Wildenthal says Cerny's accomplishments as executive director and chief financial officer of the San Francisco Opera proved his ability to lead a major opera company. Cerny was at the San Francisco Opera from 2004 to 2007.

The opera moved into the new Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House last fall.
