Big Tex, Big Concert Lineup

Save the dates! State Fair of Texas releases partial concert lineup

For those who may not have been keeping track, there are 136 days until the State Fair of Texas opens this year. To help ease the agony of waiting, Big Tex has released a partial concert series lineup for this year.

The kickoff party is Friday, Sept. 28, with Le Freak, the self-dubbed greatest disco band in the world.

Rebirth Brass Band will follow on Saturday, Oct. 6. If you have ever been to New Orleans, you will recognize the brass band as an institution and pillar of New Orleans music.

That evening, Ruthie Foster will take the stage with her eclectic blend of soul, blues, rock, folk, and gospel.

Sunday, Oct. 7, King of the Accordion Ramon Ayala will put on an afternoon concert.

Monday, Oct. 8, or Columbus Day, Bridgit Mendler will make her debut performance at the State Fair of Texas. This is definitely a good opportunity to win points with younger members of the family who will no doubt recognize her from her many Disney roles.

On Saturday, Oct. 13 -- or as we call it in Texas: Red River Rivalry -- Kevin Fowler will take center stage with his native Texan boot-scootin’ music.

Don’t stay out too late, though. The following afternoon, legendary rock group Kansas will own the stage. Carry on my wayward son!

The final weekend features the Commodores on Saturday, Oct. 20, and the Tejano styling of Texas Tornadoes on Sunday.

As most veteran Fairgoers know, concerts on the Silverado Main Stage are free for Fairgoers. The fair kicks off on Friday, Sept. 28, and runs through Oct. 21.
