1/15: Assume the Throne

NO CANDLES ALLOWED: The Dallas Museum of Art is pretty fresh for 107, aye? Celebrate the cultural fixture's birthday with a lion dance parade, a set by party specialists Brave Combo and Opium's battle of Texas writers, the Literary Death Match, during this month's Late Nights soiree. Check the full schedule, which also includes a screening of Sufjan Stevens' The BQE, here. 6PM-12AM.

DIVA SMACKDOWN: Playing on an ancient (but lingering) theatre tradition, the Uptown Players dress their male members up to contend with their female prima donnas for the Broadway Our Way: Valley of the Divas fundraiser. Decide who rocks songs from Legally Blonde, Hairspray, Little Women (!) and others with more dazzle while stuffing some dollars into the theatre troupe's collective pants. 8PM, Kalita Humphreys Theater. Find tickets here.

DUNKER'S DAUGHTER: Dana Harper is the spawn of former Dallas Maverick Derek Harper. That's how you know her now. But her rich, cozy alto pipes are making a singular name for the 19-year-old as she releases her first album -- from the tunes we've heard, it's a cheerful sunshine-soul disc with Lauryn Hill-style goosebumps on the side. See her with the Josh Goode Band and Billy Halliday at the Granada for her CD release show. Find tickets here. 8PM.
