9/28: Unlikely Fairy-Tale Ending

Shrek the Musical hits Dallas, Flyleaf plays at HOB and the iPhone does a photo good

ONCE UPON AN OGRE FAIRY-TALE: There once lived a not so ferocious ogre who enjoyed his privacy as well as rolling around in his swampy home.  One day his muddy oasis was invaded by exiled fairy-tale creatures and so the ogre’s quest begins to beg Lord Farquaad to rid them from his home. Little did the ogre know that this quest would introduce him to a talkative Donkey and Princess Fiona who all end up living happily ever after or something like that. Today see Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and a cameo appearance by Puss in Boots perform the whole adventure live.  Shrek the Musical debuts at Fair Park Music Hall at 8 p.m. and will continue to run until Oct. 17.

ALL AROUND DALLAS: Flyleaf formed in Belton and Temple, Texas, so it’s only right to welcome the band back to the Lone Star state.  Flyleaf has been selling platinum records since the release of their self-titled debut album back in 2003 with hits like “All Around Me” and “I’m So Sick.” The band’s second album “Memento Mori” reached number eight on Billboard charts after it was released last November.  Since all members are Christian, the rock band has been labeled a Christian rock band, but lead singer Lacey Mosley has attested to the band’s faith having anything to do with their music. Religiously-fused or not, Flyleaf knows how to put on a show – they perform at the House of Blues Dallas tonight at 6:30 p.m. for the United and Fight Tour with special guest Story of the Year.

iCANDY: The iPhone is such a handy little gadget, it’s hardly ever used for calling anymore. At the Photographs Do Not Bend Gallery a new exhibit rightly titled “iSHOW” celebrates the creative abilities with the iPhone (any model). Ten DFW artists have captured breathtaking moments with images saved on this device. The artists were at the right place at the right time without fancy cameras, but they took irreplaceable visions home with them thanks to the iPhone. “iSHOW” will be on display at the gallery until Oct. 9.
