10/14: Rock Out and Laugh

MUSHROOMHEAD: If Cleveland rocks, then it’s part thanks to the alternative sometimes gothic ways of Mushroomhead. The “X Face” Cleveland natives started back in 1993 and have since produced seven studio albums. Their recent album “Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children” was released this past September. As the story goes with bands that continue to wail through the decades, some of the names have changed, but the music and name remain the same. See Mushroomhead live tonight at Trees in Dallas. Doors open at 7 p.m.

FOLK BLITZ: Not sure what experimental folk music sounds like? Then you've been missing out on the musical-stylings of Blitzen Trapper. The Portland folksy rockers climbed their way to the near top of “Rolling Stone’s” best album list in 2008 with their fourth album “Furr” – reaching number 13. The band will be hitting the stage at House of Blues Dallas at 7 p.m. tonight bringing their country/folk/rock sound to DFW performing songs from their upcoming sixth album “Destroyer of the Void.”

ASHORE IN DALLAS: Pauly Shore may not be hitting high notes with his career as he was in the ‘90s, but he certainly hasn’t changed (aside from chopping off the mop top curls). He rose to comic fame as an unpredictable host on MTV in the early ‘90s and went on to host his own show “Totally Pauly” – lest we forget his MTV Spring Break antics.  He had a few starring roles in “Encino Man” “Son in Law” and “In the Army Now,” but as of late he has been raking in checks reminding folks he’s not dead. See Pauly take a stab at stand-up tonight at the Arlington Improv.
