Carl and Neil Fletcher invented the deep-fried corn-battered hot dog in their kitchen in Dallas and sold it for the first time at the State Fair of Texas in 1942. Since then it's become a state fair tradition, there's no other food on a stick like it. The Fletcher family reports they sell around 500,000 corny dogs during the fair's 24-day run each year.

  • NAME You can get frozen State Fair Corn Dogs at Kroger Food Stores as of August 2012 Monday, Aug 6 at 10:09 AM
  • Carol My first experince with Fletcher's corn dogs was last year at the 2009 Texas state fair. They are delicious, however my entire family was disapointed in the reduced size of the treat we experienced yesterday at the 2010 state fair. Must be the economy????? Sunday, Oct 3 at 8:48 PM
  • Garry Some people must not have had the funnel cakes I had while at the State Fair. The Corny Dogs were far superior. Wednesday, Dec 2 at 2:56 PM

  • Jman When Fletcher's closed their stores, it was indeed a sad day. Now we can only get the REAL Fletcher's corn dogs a few weeks a year during the State Fair. Wish I could stock up and keep them for the rest of the year. Thursday, Oct 8 at 4:06 PM

  • RBH Fletcher's corny dogs are "the genuine, the original" corn dog. Tasty hot cornbread batter enveloping a delicious (yet bad for you) hot dog...all on a stick! Doesn't even compare to the lameness of a funnel cake!! Thursday, Oct 8 at 1:47 PM
  • Rooster Funnel cakes are for the tubbies. Corn Dogs RULE!! Wednesday, Oct 7 at 10:27 PM
