Six Flags Season

"This could be a make or break season for Six Flags Theme Parks, but CEO Mark Shapiro told CNBC that  he's cautiously optimistic the company will rebound from its financial woes.

Recessions actually favor regional theme parks because many people look to them as an alternative to pricey getaways, Shapiro said.

The company was recently delisted from the New York Stock Exchange because of debt problems, and they are preparing for a debt-for-equity offering they are hoping will keep the company out of bankruptcy.

"We look at ourselves as one-stop entertainment shopping, and the reason for that is because of the value that we have," said Sharon Parker, public relations manager for Six Flags Over Texas.

The park is offering guests a promotion that allows everyone in the park for $31, the children's price. They are hoping that will lure new and returning guests.

They are coming off a record-breaking season, locally, and are hopeful that momentum will continue.
