King Tut Makes History in Dallas

Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of Pharaohs left the Dallas Museum of Art last month but not before making history in Dallas.
King Tut drew 664,000 ticket holders since it opened at the museum in October 2008 and helped the museum reach a historic milestone, for the first time the DMA welcomed more than one million visitors in 2009.
Over the course of the final "Mummy Marathon" weekend, May 15-May 17, more than 47,000 visitors enjoyed extended hours at the DMA for round-the-clock exhibition viewing and additional Tut-related programming.
"We are proud to have brought this remarkable exhibition to Dallas, providing a rare opportunity for our community and for the entire Southwest to view these incredible works of art from ancient Egypt," said Bonnie Pitman of the Dallas Museum of Art.
North Texans weren't the only ones to turn out for the exhibit. King Tut exhibit visitors purchased more than 10,000 nights in hotels through hotel packages according to The Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs opens in San Francisco June 27.
