The general public (who would have thought that "salsa" could only be used to describe a Mexican chip dip) has turned on to a new way to beat the summer heat -- while keeping all the sizzle and spice.

TV shows like "Dancing With the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance" are contributing to the rising popularity of partner dancing, and many dance studios around DFW are offering lessons to capture those extra Summer entertainment hours.

Studios like Fort Worth's DanceMakers of Texas offers classes for different levels in 4-class series, with a different dance taught each month.  DanceMakers offers classes in Country Western, Swing, International Standard, International Latin, American Smooth and the ever-popularized styles of Ballroom and Latin.

Others like Carrollton's Sandunga Dance Studio transform their studio into a dance club on select nights by hosting dance "socials" for people to let loose and showcase their skills.

We could mention all the health benefits of dancing, like its cardio, flexibility, and coordination benefits, but partner dancing is also a great way to grow closer to, well, your partner. Since most classes don't require you to bring someone to rhumba with, dance classes can also be a great way to meet new people -- and see if they can keep up with you on the dance floor.
