In the first images since the chimpanzee's birth, the newest addition to the Dallas Zoo bonds with its mother.
The Dallas Zoo sent along photos and this information about their newest chimp addition:
Ramona, age 21, and KC, age 12, are the proud parents of a chimpanzee born at the Dallas Zoo at 6 a.m. on Sunday, April 19. This was the first birth for Ramona and KC. Residents of the Kimberly-Clark Chimpanzee Forest will be off exhibit for a short period of time so zookeepers can keep the chimpanzees together while they become accustomed to the new family member.
“There is a lot of excitement,” said John Fried, mammal supervisor for the Wilds of Africa. “The other chimpanzees have been checking out the baby, and the staff has been monitoring Ramona around-the-clock. The baby is nursing and Ramona is doing well as a first-time mom.”
