Dallas-based art collective ArtLoveMagic is having a youth workshop Saturday, May 16, 2009. It will take place at the Deep Ellum Community Center.

Sixty Dallas area students will attend the interactive art experience alongside professional artists who will share knowledge and insight into various mediums.

"Deep Ellum has always been a young neighborhood and an incubator for young artists. The Foundation believes that art education and the arts are important, and we’re glad to provide that opportunity for kids whenever we can," said Barry Annino, President of the Deep Ellum Foundation, which is the primary sponsor of the workshop.

The 60 kids who will participate either attend or are involved with Genesis Women’s Shelter, Pegaus School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Camp Fire USA Lone Star Council.

“This experience will be very different from a classroom environment because of the interactive element. It’s almost like the students are in these professional artists studios. The professionals are creating art, like they do every day, and the students have the chance to work alongside them," said ArtLoveMagic co-founder Michael Lagocki. "During the five-hour workshop, students can experience many different genres of art. ArtInteractive projects include street-style cartooning, abstract painting, graffiti art, pottery and sidewalk chalk art.”

The collective’s mission is to tear down the walls dividing the artist from the audience to create a profound connection through the process of artistic interaction. The goal of the ArtLoveMagic collective is to someday have enough funding so that the workshops can welcome any kid in the community.
