The real Anvil will accompany the movie version to the Dallas opening of 'Anvil! The Story of Anvil' on Friday.

Pardon us, Canada, for enshrining Avril Lavigne and Celine Dion while your sons of heavy metal continued working the ground to no harvest of their own.

We wouldn't care so much, except that Anvil's 1982 album Metal on Metal helped catalyze the axe-wielding of Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, and therefore mobilize a mysterious part of mainstream American culture that we'd, um, surely miss making fun of if it disappeared.

A new documentary follows Anvil's seriously frustrating plight to just break even on tour as their counterparts trapsed the world clothed in stardom.

There's testimony of the band's influence straight from metal kings like Slash of Guns and Roses/Velvet Revolver and Lemmy of Motorhead. The underdogs (undergods?) of Anvil really seem lovable for their intentions, a la Arthur Kane as tenderly portrayed in the documentary New York Doll, which would endear even the prudest of music tastes for its tale of human hope and disappointment.

Anvil! The Story of Anvil opens in Dallas on Friday, and our hometown-based source for all things film, gordonandthewhale.com, clued us in on the band's appearance to accompany the premiere.

A live Q&A with the band follows the 7:45 p.m. showing, and a ticket to the 9:45 p.m. screening will get you in to see the band perform.

It's all happening at the Magnolia at West Village. See the epic movie trailer below.
