Dream Home Remodel 2010

Benefiting Jewel Charity

This year's Fort Worth, Texas magazine dream home is one that many golf fans will recognize. And you can tour it starting Thursday to help a good cause.

The 1930's house is located in West Fort Worth at Colonial Parkway and Country Club Circle, just south of Interstate 30 off University Drive. The 2-story home sits near the entrance to the Colonial Country Club. It boasts sweeping views of the golf course.

After a remodel and an addition, the house is now nearly twice as big, going from 4,500 to 8,500 square feet. It's a seamless mix of old and new, and a collection of family memorabilia from around the world.

"We've always loved trains. We still have that train -- in fact, in the home in Park City," homeowner Tom Bates said of their home in Utah. It's one of the many places he and his wife, Mary, have lived with their two, now-grown sons, Tom III and Tim. They co-own Glendarroch Homes, which did the remodel and built the addition.

Their interior designers also re-created memories from Scotland in the Poker room on the second floor.

"The men in the family wanted a room that was very masculine, where they could play cards and have their friends over to smoke cigars," said Linda Henderson, interior designer with Dorian's.

The basement used to be just a utility room, but now it's a 1,500-bottle wine cellar that's climate controlled at a chill 55 degrees.

"This is really the girl part of the rooms," Mary Bates said of the second-floor sun-room. "And we have the playroom right off this area, so we knew that we'll be sitting up here watching all the little ones."

Photographs of the Bates' seven grandchildren line the walls of the media room like lit-up movie posters. They have their bunk room, bathroom, and living room.

There's plenty of outdoor balcony space and a backyard swimming pool.
