Mike Snyder is the co-anchor of NBC 5 News at 5 and 6. Mike has co-anchored the 6 p.m. show with Jane McGarry for 19 years -- making them the longest-running anchor team in North Texas history. From 1990 until 2009, Mike and Jane also co-anchored the 10 p.m. news.

Mike joined NBC 5 in 1980. Before coming to NBC 5, he reported and anchored for KHOU-TV in Houston, was news director and morning drive anchor for KLIF Radio in Dallas and reported and anchored for KOA-Radio-TV in Denver.
Mike started his broadcasting career while in high school in 1971 at KTTS-Radio and TV in Springfield, Mo. He attended Southwest Missouri State University on a debate scholarship, was a director of the College Union Board and member of the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity. Mike also reported and anchored in Tulsa, Okla. radio before arriving in Denver.
Prior to assuming the anchor desk at NBC 5, Mike traveled the world reporting for NBC 5. During his tenure as chief correspondent, Mike extensively covered politics, military and aviation issues from Dallas, to Austin, to Washington.
Some highlights: Mike has covered every GOP and Democratic National Convention since 1980, reported from the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia, the fall of the Soviet Union from Russia, the earthquakes and riots in California and the bombing in Oklahoma City, explosions of space shuttles Challenger and Columbia, and expanded coverage of aviation issues.
Among Mike’s numerous professional awards: LULAC Humanitarian Award and President’s Citation for service to the families of deployed military troops. He was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Silver Circle for lifetime achievement in 2006, The Masonic Humanitarian Award for service to children’s hospitals, The Barbara Jordan Award from the Texas Governor’s Committee, the Jack Evans Citizenship Award from Dallas Mayor’s Committee, twice recognized by the United Press as Best Reporter in Texas, Dallas Press Club Katie’s for investigative and documentary reporting, The National Guard Association honored Mike for his coverage during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Mike is an 9-time winner of the coveted Gold Medal Award from the Muscular Dystrophy Association for his series on neuromuscular disease.
Mike is a member of the Investigative Reporters and Editors Association and the Society of Professional Journalists and National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. In addition to a number of professional journalism organizations, Mike serves on the board of the U.S. Air Force Academy Falcon Foundation (501c3), the board of the First Methodist Mission Foundation (501c3) and the board of the Fort Worth Air Power Foundation (501c3).

Mike is chairman of the Fort Worth Air Power Foundation, and has chaired the Foundation’s Sky Ball numerous times, raising over one million dollars for the the families of deployed troops at the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth.
Mike also chaired the committee to design, fund and build a Memorial for Texas Air National Guardsmen who have lost their lives in service to their country. The Monument now stands on the shores of Lake Worth at the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth.
Mike is deeply involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, co-anchoring the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon since 1991. He makes countless appearances for MDA, fundraising, visiting clinics and researchers, as well as visiting patients throughout the year. Mike is also actively involved with the Salvation Army and is one of the founders of the Angel Tree Christmas project, which provides clothing and gifts to thousands of north Texans in need every year.
Mike is a Master Mason and member of the Moslah Shrine, and is deeply involved in fundraising efforts for the 22 Shrine Children’s Hospitals. Mike also volunteers on projects for The American Cancer Society, the I Have a Dream Foundation and many other charitable organizations. Mike serves on the Junior Achievement Dallas Business Hall of Fame Committee and teaches Junior Achievement classes in elementary schools and mentors high school students as job shadows. One of Mike’s favorite yearlong volunteer activities is reading to elementary school children in classrooms across North Texas.
Mike and his wife, Lyn, are celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary in 2008. Mike and their children are members of First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. They enjoy their lake home in Missouri, the ocean and alpine skiing.
